Some personalities not spared by defective VCMs

Even some noted personalities were not spared by defective vote counting machines (VCMs) that marred several precincts on Monday, Election Day.

Among the first to have experience th is was former Vice President Jejomar Binay, whose ballot was rejected by the VCM when he voted at a precinct in Makati City.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesman James Jimenez said the machine was immediately replaced.

This came after Binay rushed to Comelec to report the incident. According to Jimenez, Binay will return to the precinct and will be accompanied by Education and Information Division chairperson Frances Arabe to address his concern.

Meanwhile, senatorial candidate Grace Poe had to return to Precinct 81 in San Juan City later in the day to cast her vote, after failing to vote in the morning.

Poe arrived in the precinct early morning but had to leave because of the defected machine.

On the other hand, Pasig City mayoral candidate Vico Sotto also returned to his polling precinct in Valle Verde 5 later in the day to vote.

Sotto left the precinct this morning after the VCM there experienced a glitch.

Sotto said he wants to see the receipt of his ballot after casting his vote.

According to Sotto, 20 VCMs in Pasig City were confirmed to have malfunctioned. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
