Sara Duterte rejects former Speaker Alvarez’s reconciliation bid

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has rejected supposed reconciliation efforts from former Speaker and congressman-elect Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez of Davao del Norte.

President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter said Alvarez had been talking behind her back.

“I have no intention of accepting Representative Bebot Alvarez’s offer of reconciliation because the offer was deceiving and utterly lacked sincerity,” Sara said in a statement on Tuesday night.

“Unknown to him, he was surreptitiously videotaped when he threatened, after his win in the recent elections in Davao del Norte, 'Ipapahiya ko si Sara',” Sara added.

Sara then warned the public against falling for Alvarez.

“Alvarez was and he remains to be a very dangerous, machiavellian individual who do not deserve peace,” Sara said.

Upon learning that the ruling party PDP-Laban is considering fielding Alvarez in the speakership race for the next Congress, Sara said that Alvarez should not be given such chance again because he already had an unsuccessful tenure.

Sara has been viewed as instrumental in the ouster of then Speaker Alvarez in July 2018 on the day of President Duterte’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Alvarez was ousted five months after Sara, via her Instagram account, called out Alvarez for supposedly being arrogant and bragging that he—as Speaker of the House—can unseat President Duterte.
