Palace declares June 5 a holiday for Eid'l Fitr to mark end of Ramadan

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared June 5 a non-working holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Fitr to mark the end of Ramadan, Malacañang said Wednesday.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed the development following a recommendation from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos for Duterte to declare a holiday on the said date.

Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of Ramadan, Islam’s holy month, which calls for spiritual reflection through praying, fasting, and abstaining from sinful behavior.

Ramadan, which started on May 6, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. —KG, GMA News
