Hontiveros on Otso Diretso's defeat: This is not the endgame

Their numbers may be down in the Senate, but they still have their fighting spirit, opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros said Wednesday.

Interviewed on News To Go, Hontiveros admitted that they were saddened by the defeat of all their senatorial bets in the recent midterm elections.

"Wala namang matutuwa sa amin na nabawasan kami, pero ganun talaga. Andiyan pa rin ang aming fighting spirit," she said.

"I have said this before. This is not the endgame. Kami sa oposisyon, sanay kami sa mahihirap na laban. We are prepared to fight the long game," Hontiveros added.

Hontiveros said they would continue to seek "issue-based alliances" in pushing for measures that will advance human rights, freedom and democracy.

"We will continue to look for issue-based alliances and working with civil societies for that cause," she said.

Of the eight candidates of the opposition for the Senate, only incumbent Senator Bam Aquino fared well, finishing at 14th place with over 14 million votes. —Llanesca T. Panti/KBK, GMA News
