FDA warns public vs. beauty products sold online

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officer-in-charge Eric Domingo on Thursday warned the public against buying beauty and whitening products online.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Domingo said beauty products being sold at retail platforms Shopee and Lazada should have Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) from the FDA.

"Kung hindi po registered products po 'yun, hindi po pupuwede ibenta. Pero kung registered naman po sila at meron silang CPR galing sa FDA maaari po silang ibenta," Domingo said.

"Kailangan lang i-check ng mga dealers kung ang kanilang ibinibenta ay mga licensed products po."

The FDA has earlier warned against purchasing medicines online, noting that there is no guarantee that medicines sold on the internet are genuine.

It added that online selling of medicines is illegal, and that the FDA only allows ordering of medicines online provided that the seller has an existing FDA-licensed pharmacy with physical address.

Both Shopee and Lazada had earlier said that their merchants are mandated to strictly comply with laws and regulations. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
