Ako Bicol, Senior Citizens party-list groups honor Eddie Garcia

The party-lists Ako Bicol and Senior Citizen on Thursday mourned the death of veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who passed away earlier in the day at the age of 90.

In a statement, Ako Bicol party-list Representative Alfredo Garbin offered condolences to the family of the late actor, whom he called a "Filipino icon, Bicolano exemplar, and Philippine Cinema titan."

Garcia himself is a native of Juban town in Sorsogon and, according to Garbin, had been an ardent supporter of the Ako Bicol party-list.

Garbin is requesting President Rodrigo Duterte to order a Half-Mast Flag Honors and military honors for Garcia, who also served in the then Philippine Scouts.

"Amin ring irerekomenda sa Bicol University na lumikha ng isang nararapat na Permanent Memorial Exhibit at Professorial Chair sa BU College of Arts and Letters upang maipagpatuloy sa Bicol University ang mga natatanging kontribusyon ni Eddie Garcia sa larangan ng Sining," Garbin said.

"Maraming salamat Manoy Eddie Garcia sa mga natatangi mong ambag sa iyong minahal na bansang Pilipinas," he added.

For his part, Senior Citizen party-list Representative Francisco Datol Jr. said Garcia "endeared himself to every Filipino family through his sterling craft as an artist and his love for his fellow Oragons in Bicol and the whole Filipino nation."

"I also ask the Department of Education to identify the Public High School which Congress can and should rename as the Eddie V. Garcia Memorial National High School in his home province of Sorsogon," he added. —NB, GMA News
