Duterte orders ‘freezing’ of Customs execs, employees amid corruption charges

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the "freezing" of several high-ranking officials and employees of the Bureau of Customs amid alleged corruption anomalies, his spokesperson, Salvador Panelo said.

In a statement issued Wednesday night, Panelo said the names of the involved Customs officials and employees would be disclosed "at the appropriate time, as they face administrative and criminal charges, for unlawful activities."

"The President’s latest action underscores this administration’s zero tolerance on corruption among erring officials," Panelo said.

"The anti-corruption campaign is continuing as it is relentless. No one will be spared," he added.

Panelo also vowed that the administration would "continue to dismantle corruption in the bureaucracy and rid it of corrupt officials and employees."

In a speech last week, Duterte had said that he would be firing Customs officials involved in corruption.  —LDF, GMA News
