Duterte's SONA 2019 to tackle corruption, drugs, rebellion, West PHL Sea


President Rodrigo Duterte will discuss in his State of the Nation Address on Monday the promises he made regarding curbing corruption, illegal drugs, rebellion, and the West Philippine Sea issue, among others, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said on Sunday.

"We can expect that he will tackle the promises he made on fighting corruption, illegal drugs, criminality, and rebellion. We can also expect that he will speak about other major issues, such as that of the West Philippine Sea, ways to sustain the growth in our economy, as well as his legislative agenda," Panelo said in a statement.

Duterte will also report his administration's achievements the past three years, as well as plans for the remainder of his term.

"Tomorrow on his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will report to the Filipino people the achievements of the administration in the past three years, the present situation of the country, and his plans to further move the nation forward for the three years," Panelo said.

"The past year has been meaningful and we are all excited for what was prepared for tomorrow's momentous event," he added.

Duterte will deliver his fourth SONA on Monday afternoon at the Batasang Pambansa with senators, congressmen, the diplomatic corps, and government officials in attendance.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has already set a no-fly zone and drone limits to secure the air space around the venue.

Eight thousand police officers are set to be deployed on Monday as throngs of protesters are expected to stage demonstrations.

Military soldiers will also assist police forces in ensuring peace and order on SONA Day. —KG, GMA News
