OTS updates list of prohibited items on flights, airports

The Office of Transport Security (OTS) has issued an updated list of prohibited items or items which cannot be brought or carried in the airport and aircraft.

In the revised list, the coverage of prohibited items was expanded to to include chemicals and other toxic substances.

The OTS also noted in a press release that add-on items were also listed under different categories, including disguised/improvised firearm, arrow and dart, hand/thumb cuffs, air tank (as diving equipment), hoverboards and similar items, batteries/powerbanks, e-cigarettes, e-lighters, etc.

There are now also items which are allowed either at the cabin or hold baggage, but with a special instruction.

Stun guns, for example, were allowed "unless prohibited in the country of destination/transit points."

The revised list also includes an "exhaustive" list of items considered as liquid, aerosols and gels (LAGS).

The OTS maintained its restriction on LAGS that are in containers with a capacity of more than 100 ml which are prohibited in the hold
baggage.

Though LAGS still might be allowed in the cabin or carry-on baggage, the OTS said these are now also subject to special instruction from airlines.

The following list of prohibited items by category specifying the revisions were shared with the media on Thursday:

OTS Administrator Undersecretary Arturo Evangelista reminded passengers that “security is non-negotiable."

"We urge the public to refrain from bringing items that are prohibited in the airport to avoid delays and inconvenience," Evangelista said in the release.

"If you are unsure whether an item is prohibited or not, you may contact us through email, SMS Hotline, or any of our official social media accounts," he added.

"Or better yet, if it is not that important, we suggest that you just leave it at home." —Margaret Claire Layug/KBK, GMA News
