UP cited more times in health research than top US, UK schools, rankings show


The University of the Philippines (UP) scored higher on health research citations than some of the most prominent universities in the United States and United Kingdom, the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2019 showed.

With a 98.8 citation score, UP edged out the University of Oxford (92.7), Harvard University (87.4), University of Cambridge (88.5), Imperial College of London (87.8), and Stanford University (92.1) which were the top five universities in the overall rankings for in clinical, pre-clinical and health subjects.

Citations determine research influence of universities and make up for 35% of the weightings for the clinical, pre-clinical and health ranking.

Other factors that were considered in the subject ranking were the learning environment (27.5%), research (27.5%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry income (2.5%).

UP is the top 501-600 universities in Time's Higher Educations's overall World University Rankings 2019, rising from the 601-800 bracket in 2018.

On the other hand, it landed 95th in the Asia University Rankings 2019 out of over 400 universities that were ranked from the region.

Institutions with the highest health research citation scores ahead of UP were Tokyo Metropolitan University (100.0), Auckland University of Technology (99.6), Metropolitan Autonomous University (99.5), Jordan University of Science and Technology (99.4), University of Canberra (99.2), and Anglia Ruskin University (99.1).
