Cayetano won't block debates on the Anti-Political Dynasty bill

Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday said he would not block debates on the Anti-Political Dynasty bill in the House of Representatives if the bill gains support from congressmen.

"Hindi ko pipigilan yung debate diyan, at kung ‘yan ang will ng Congress, bakit po hindi?" Cayetano said in a radio interview.

Cayetano himself came from a family of politicians. His father, the late Rene Cayetano, and older sister, Pia Cayetano, both served as congressmen and senators while his younger brother, former director Lino Cayetano, was currently the mayor of Taguig City.

Cayetano's wife, Lani, was also a congresswoman representing the second district of Taguig City.

But Cayetano believed there was a "good" and "bad" side to political dynasties.

"Ang Amerika at Hapon, wala silang anti-dynasty [bill] pero maunlad sila," the speaker claimed.

"But having said that, kung magkakaroon ng groundswell of support bakit hindi?" he added. — DVM, GMA News
