Janet Lim Napoles’ name appears on list of freed inmates due to GCTA

Alleged pork barrel scam queen "Janet Lim Napoles" was among the inmates released due to the good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law, according to the list submitted by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to the Senate.

A copy of the list obtained by GMA News from a source showed namesakes of celebrated inmates, release dates and crime that do not match with the prison numbers, and other information mismatch that needed to be clarified, according to a report by Chino Gaston on GMA News' 24 Oras.

GMA News Research pored over the list containing over 2,000 names, who were freed between June 2014 and August 2019 due to GCTA.

The network is still awaiting response from the BuCor on its request for reaction.

Based on records, the "Janet Lim Napoles" released in the list was not the one facing plunder trial and detained at the Correctional Institution for Women.  Instead, the one release in November 2018 was convicted for rape.

A certain Rolito Tambunting Go, a rape convict, was also said to have walked free in May 2016.

He is a namesake of businessman Rolito Go, who was sentenced due to the murder of student Eldon Maguan in 1991 and who has been released in December 2016.

The list also showed the four convicts involved in the murder of Chiong sisters and four Chinese drug lords.

Four police personnel sentenced in the murder of the sister and two cousins of Myrna Diones in 1992 have also been released in 2017.

In August this year, Roberto Gungon, who was sentenced for the kidnapping and attempted murder of Agnes Guirindola in 1994, was also released.

Venancio Roxas, who was convicted for the same crimes, was instead recorded to be sentenced due to illegal drugs. —LDF, GMA News
