Over 2k people affected by Habagat rains enhanced by Marilyn

Some 480 families or 2,360 people were affected by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) rains enhanced by Tropical Depression Marilyn, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

In its situational report issued on Sunday morning, the NDRRMC said the affected people were in 14 barangays in Regions IX, XI and XII.

Of this number, 1,815 people sought refuge in four evacuation centers. A total of 545 people, meanwhile, stayed outside evacuation centers.

In Sarangani, huge waves damaged several houses in Barangay Poblacion, Maasim.

Strong winds and big waves also damaged houses in Barangays Dumangas Nueva and Poblacion in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.

A total of 36 houses were also damaged in South Cotabato.

Eight vessels and two motor bancas were stranded as of Saturday noon.

One vessel meanwhile took shelter in Barcelona Port in Escalante, Negros Occidental.

Fifty-three areas were flooded in Regions III, VI and IX.

Marilyn weakened and became a low pressure area as it exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday night.
