Two cadets of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) have been rushed to the hospital after suffering from suspected maltreatment, Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo said Monday.

"Two other Fourth Class cadets from the PMA are now confined at a military hospital, one of them was admitted in September 17 and the other was admitted in September 21," Arevalo said at a press briefing in Camp Aguinaldo.

"Both incidents sadly are suspected to be maltreatment cases."

Arevalo said based on initial diagnosis, the two were complaining about pain in their abdomen.

The military official said the suspected perpetrators were already identified and held at the PMA holding center.

Arevalo said authorities are still investigating if the incident was related to the case of Cadet Fourth Class Darwin Dormitorio, who died last week due to hazing.

Amid Dormitorio's death and the case of the two other cadets, Arevalo said reiterated that the military and the PMA have never tolerated any form of maltreatment.

"Malpractice has no place in a modern professional and mature Armed Forces of the Philippines," he said.  —KBK, GMA News
