Kitty gets dengue, causes Duterte to lose sleep —Bong Go

President Rodrigo Duterte's youngest child Veronica has contracted dengue and caused her father to lose sleep on his way from Russia back to the country over the weekend, Senator Bong Go told reporters on Monday.

After delivering his arrival speech and answering a few questions from the media, Duterte went straight from the airport to the hospital where his daughter, also known as Kitty, was confined.

“Nakikita ko habang nasa eroplano kami, nag-aalala siya. Parati niyang iniisip at 'di nga raw siya po makatulog sa haba ng flight. For 11 hours ay 'di siya mapalagay dahil iniisip niya ang youngest daughter,” Go said.

It was Kitty's first time to contract dengue. She has received shots of the anti-dengue vaccine Dengvaxia.

The Department of Health (DOH) stopped the government’s dengue immunization program in December 2017 after vaccine maker Sanofi Pasteur said that the use of Dengvaxia must be strictly limited due to evidence that it could worsen the disease in people who had not previously been exposed to dengue.

“Okay naman po siya. Dengue fever po ito at on her way to recovery na po siya. Sa awa ng Diyos maayos naman po. Bumabalik na yung, umaakyat na yung kanyang platelet and hopefully ay gagaling na siya,” Go said.

Asked how up to how low her platelet level went, Go said, “I think around 52 pero unti-unti na hong bumabalik sa normal. Right now mayroon pa siyang dengue fever.”

Duterte's party in Russia learned about Kitty's dengue on Saturday.

“'Di po namin masabi. Nasa russia kami nung nangyari ito kaya nung pagdating namin dumiretso agad kami sa ospital at bisitahin yung kanyang youngest daugter,” Go said.

DOH records showed that there had been 322,693 cases of dengue in the country from January 1 to September 26.

A total of 1,272 of these resulted in death. —NB, GMA News
