OIC Gamboa vows to continue campaigns of PNP

Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa, the newly-appointed officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP), on Monday vowed to continue the campaigns of the police on fighting criminality, illegal drugs and corruption.

Speaking to reporters, Gamboa underscored the importance of appointing an officer-in-charge for managing the continuity of the police organization’s campaigns.

“Well, the instruction of the President is that I’ll be OIC while he is looking for the permanent chief PNP and continue the work that the PNP should do,” Gamboa said during a press conference.

“With this responsibility, I assure the continuous implementation of all ongoing campaign plans on internal security, anti-criminality, anti-illegal drugs and anti-corruption in line with national priorities and direction of President Rodrigo Duterte,” he added.

Gamboa said all issuances, designations and policy directives would remain in status quo until further remanded.

Gamboa, who is among the contenders to be the next chief of the police force, called on all policemen not to be affected with the controversy hounding the police force.

“Let’s continue to work which is to serve and protect the people,” Gamboa said.

Earlier, Police General Oscar Albayalde relinquished his post as PNP chief following the  ninja cops controversy in which his name was dragged along with 13 Pampanga policemen allegedly involved in drug recycling.

Aside from the Senate, the Department of the Interior and Local Government is also investigating the matter.

Albayalde said his move would pave the way for “the appointment of his replacement should the President so desire.” — RSJ, GMA News
