LP exec urges full disclosure of Duterte health records after motorcycle fall

A Liberal Party executive on Thursday urged the “full and proper disclosure” of President Rodrigo Duterte’s health and hospital records following his fall from a motorcycle on Wednesday night.

Liberal Party External Vice President Erin Tañada said Article 7, Section 12 of the Philippine Constitution states that the public must be informed of the state of the president’s health.

“Any accident involving the President is a cause of national concern and interest. There must be full and proper disclosure of his health and hospital records. Malacañang should release a physician’s report of the incident that includes the President’s overall well-being,” he said in a statement.

Tañada said it is possible that the various illnesses which Duterte claimed to suffer from, including myasthenia gravis, Buerger’s Disease, Barrett’s Esophagus, and Gastroesophageal reflux disease, contributed to his motorcycle accident.

However, the former Quezon representative also noted that different sources have given varying accounts of the incident.

Duterte’s close aide Senator Bong Go told reporters that the president fell from a motorcycle, while Presidential Security Group commander Jose Niembra said Duterte did not fall off because he was riding a three-wheeled motorcycle.

“Are they much concerned about the failing ‘war on drugs’ due to the ‘ninja cops’ brouhaha that they resort to this diversion? Absent an official report from a medical professional, we should be wary of giving undue attention to this deflection,” Tañada said. —LDF, GMA News
