Manual recount results proved Robredo victory in 2016, lawyer says

The additional 15,000 votes gained by Vice President (VP) Leni Robredo after the manual recount of the votes from three pilot provinces chosen by protestant Ferdinand Marcos Jr. proved Robredo's win in the 2016 elections, one of her lawyers said on Friday.

"Clearly, we won in May 2016 and we have proven our victory again in the recount," Bernadette Sardillo said in a statement.

"The Marcos camp should respect the decision of the Filipino people and don’t confuse the public with misinformation and lies," she added.

He has filed a protest case before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal against Robredo.

According to the Supreme Court sitting as the PET, Robredo's lead in the three provinces — Negros Oriental, Iloilo, and Camarines Sur — increased by some 15,000 votes.

The three provinces were selected by Marcos as part of his effort to prove that cheating happened in the 2016 polls.

"After the revision and appreciation, the lead of protestee Robredo increased from 263,473 to 278,566," the PET said in a resolution released Friday, referring to the overall, nationwide vote lead. —NB, GMA News
