Nearly 30,000 outbound passengers were monitored by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) days before the observance of the All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day.

Data from the PCG on Monday bared that a total of 29,822 passengers were recorded in various ports across the country.

As of 6 a.m., most passengers came from Central Visayas with 9,448. In Southern Tagalog, the total number of passengers already reached 5,256.

The PCG further said a total of 4,478 outbound passengers were recorded in Western Visayas while South Eastern Mindanao has 2,746.

The other number of passengers include the following: Bicol (1,893); Northern Mindanao (2,135); Eastern Visayas (1,518); and Southern Visayas (2,348).

In a statement, PCG commandant Vice Admiral Joel Garcia said the agency has focused its maritime security front in the southern portion of the country to prevent lawless elements from bringing hostilities in the coming holidays.

Garcia also said the PCG was directed to ensure the security of transportation infrastructure, ships as well as other marine conveyances such as ports and bridges.

A nationwide red alert was declared by PCG last Saturday to ensure safety of travelers. —KBK, GMA News
