Bill declaring day of remembrance for road crash victims OK'd by Senate on final reading

Voting 20-0, the Senate approved on third and final reading Monday a bill seeking to declare every third Sunday of November as national day of remembrance for road crash victims, survivors, and their families.

Under Senate Bill 1122, sponsored by Senator Grace Poe, every third Sunday of November, road crash victims, survivors, and their families will be commemorated through religious mass services, designation of public spaces as memorials, blood donation campaigns, and other means.

Poe, public services committee chairperson, earlier said remembrance is a precursor of justice and a reminder that road safety lapses must be immediately addressed to save lives.

“Remembering road crash victims, survivors, and their families will not only prevent them from becoming just another statistic. It will also preserve the call to justice for future generations. It will insulate their tragedy from political amnesia,” she said. —LDF, GMA News
