Senate ratifies bicam report on bill postponing barangay, SK polls

The Senate on Monday ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the bill postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, originally scheduled for May 2020, to December 5, 2022.

The bill proposes holding the Barangay and SK elections every three years. The barangay elections had been postponed six times since 1988.

The ratified copy of the bill would be transmitted to Malacañang for the signature of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Once the bill is signed and enacted into law, there would be two elections in 2022 - the presidential elections in May while the elections for village and youth leaders would be in December of the same year. — DVM, GMA News
