PNP OIC Gamboa mum on Robredo eyeing US intel on drug problem

Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Wednesday refused to comment on Vice President Leni Robredo's statement saying she is considering tapping US intelligence to hunt for big-time drug lords.

Speaking to reporters in Camp Crame, Gamboa said he has some things to say to Robredo during their meeting on Thursday.

"Tomorrow, we will be having a meeting with her sa law enforcement cluster. So I don't want to preempt anything there. Kung ano man 'yung actions niya then let it be but I have things in mind to tell her tomorrow," Gamboa said.

Gamboa also pointed out that the Philippines already has an anti-drug strategy that is being implemented since October 2018.

"It just did not come from thin air. This has been studied, this has been thoroughly researched kaya nag-come up sila ng ganoong strategy and remember this strategy is primarily being supervised and monitored by the Dangerous Drugs Board," Gamboa explained.

Earlier, Robredo, the newly-appointed drug czar, met with US officials and discussed the country's problem on illegal drugs.

According to the US Embassy, those who attended the meeting were representatives from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of State, and United States Agency for International Development.

The Vice President said she would push for zero killings in the government’s fight against illegal drugs, stressing that the success of the drug war will not be measured on the number of killed drug suspects. —KG, GMA News
