Gamboa to sign dismissal order of cops who allegedly extorted from body cameras’ bidder

Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa said he would sign Monday the dismissal order of three policemen who had allegedly extorted more or less P5 million from a bidder of body cameras.

"Today I will sign their dismissal from service... of course they have ten days to appeal my decision to me, but what do you expect di ba? After that they can appeal at the national appellate board," Gamboa told reporters in Camp Crame.

"We will be transparent, those who are answerable especially those who are corrupt will be dismissed swiftly, as fast as we could. But of course nakita ninyo, we also award those who did good in the service," Gamboa added.

Gamboa earlier identified the involved cops as Police Major Emerson Sales, Police Major Rholly Caraggayan and Police Major Angel Beros who were all part of the technical working group of the Bids and Awards Committee.

Aside from administrative cases, the three cops would also be slapped with criminal complaints, Gamboa had said.

Asked for updates on the bidding for body cameras, Gamboa said the post-qualification process for the units is still ongoing.

Gamboa previously said the PNP aims to finish the post-qualification process of the bidders of body cameras by the end of the year so that at least 3,000 body camera units will be acquired by the police in 2020. — RSJ, GMA News
