Duterte honors soldiers wounded in clashes with insurgents

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday honored five soldiers who were wounded during military operations against extremist groups in Mindanao.

The President conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu, Rank of Kampilan on the injured servicemen and also provided them with cash assistance at the Metro Davao Medical Research Center.

The award recognizes the exemplary service by workers of the government and private individuals who were wounded, injured, or suffered great loss of property for their participation in the advocacy of the President.

Among the soldiers who received the award were Private First Class Ruel Sumilhig, Allan James Cabildo, Sonny Buladaco, and Corporal Alexander Flauta.

The troops were injured in separate clashes against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and the Dawlah Islamiyah Turaife Group in rural areas in Mindanao. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
