Preggy resident, 4-day-old baby among those force evacuated in Cavite

A four-day-old baby and a six-month pregnant resident of a coastal area in Cavite province were among those force evacuated as Typhoon Tisoy lashed southern Luzon on Tuesday.

A 24 Oras report said pregnant Joela Bigcas, resident of La Isla Bonita in Rosario, Cavite, initially chose to stay behind in their two-storey house despite the strong wind and rain in the area.

"Ok pa naman [kami]. Pero dito muna kami dahil yumuyugyog ang bahay namin... Hanap [na lang kami] ulit kami matataguan [kapag lumaki pa ang alaon]," the expectant mother said right before rescuers pulled her out of their house.

At Barangay Digman in Bacoor, Cavite, rescuers also had to force residents to leave their houses. Resident Jinky Cortan and her four-day-old offspring were among those who were sent to an evacuation center.

"Nakakatakot na kasi ang hangin at ulan," she said, when asked what made her decide to finally abandon their home.

PAGASA earlier warned of a storm surge up to three meters high in several coastal areas in Cavite, Marinduque, Mindoro Provinces, Romblon, and Batangas.

Sea travel was also declared “risky” due to rough sea conditions.

In its 5 p.m. Severe Weather Bulletin, PAGASA said the center of the cyclone was last located 110 kilometers northwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, carrying maximum sustained winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 200 kph. — MDM, GMA News
