Duterte vows gov’t support to dependents of fallen soldiers, policemen

President Rodrigo Duterte has assured dependents of fallen soldiers and policemen that they will receive the support they need.

Duterte made the statement at the thanksgiving party he hosted for the families of killed-in-action soldiers and killed-in-police operations officers on Tuesday in Malacañang.

The President mentioned the Comprehensive Social Benefits Program which entitles dependents to financial, employment, livelihood, educational, housing and healthcare assistance.

He vowed to institutionalize the program to cover personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine Coast Guard before his term ends in 2022.

Duterte also promised to speed up the release of the pension differentials of retired enlisted personnel.

He said the administration will continue to do its best to honor the memory of fallen soldiers and policemen by upholding the country’s sovereignty, preventing lawless violence and protecting democratic institutions. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
