Senate, House suspend work due to Taal Volcano ash fall

Work in the Senate and the House of Representatives on Monday has been suspended due to ash fall caused by the phreatic eruption of the Taal Volcano on Sunday.

In a text message to GMA News Online, Senate President Vicente Sotto III confirmed that work is suspended in the Senate but that a “skeleton force of the Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms will remain.”

The office of House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano likewise announced that work in the lower chamber is suspended on Monday.

The Engineering Department and Security Bureau will maintain the House’s skeleton staff.

The special meeting to discuss the repatriation of Filipino workers in Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries as well as the meeting on the case of slain Filipina domestic worker Jeanelyn Villavende were postponed and will be reset to a later date.

Alert Level 4 is raised over the Taal Volcano, meaning that a hazardous eruption is imminent. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
