‘THE VP CASE IS CLOSED’

New PNP chief Gamboa sets aside VP's drug war assessment

Newly-designated Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Monday said he was no longer paying any heed to Vice President Leni Robredo's assessment of the government's campaign against illegal drugs.

"The VP case for me is closed. Let's move on forward," said Gamboa during a press conference in Camp Crame when asked what he would do with Robredo's conclusions as stated in her 40-page drug war report.

Gamboa had previously said that the police force was hurt over Robredo's claims that the drugs campaign was a massive failure.

The PNP chief had argued that the campaign had been effective given that law enforcers had stopped the operations of 14 clandestine illegal drugs laboratories and 419 drug dens.

Robredo had pointed out that only one percent of the drugs supply and money had been seized in the last three years, adding that her conclusions were based on data provided by law enforcement units involved in the campaign. — DVM, GMA News
