MEDICAL ATTENTION NECESSARY IF FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS EXIST

Cebu Pacific: Passengers and crew of Hong Kong flight screened, cleared

The Cebu Pacific said none of the passengers in the flight in which the relatives of the first case of novel coronavirus infection in Hong Kong were quarantined.

The budget airline, in a statement, said they were alerted to media reports that passengers aboard Cebu Pacific Flight 5J 111 that traveled from Hong Kong to Manila may have been exposed to a person infected with the coronavirus.

"All passengers and the crew aboard the flight were screened by the Bureau of Quarantine  upon arrival in Manila, and none of them were held for further observation," the company said.

"Nonetheless, we are trying to coordinate with Hong Kong authorities to verify information in media reports."

However, as a precautionary measure, the company advised passengers of the flight to "immediately seek medical attention should they exhibit flu-like symptoms including runny nose, cough, sore throat or fever."

"We have also disinfected the aircraft following our standard practice for all inbound international flights," the company said.

"We are closely monitoring the spread of the Wuhan virus, and have precautionary measures in place for our flights."

Travelers are urged to take precautionary measures, including:
• Frequent handwashing with soap and water
• Using alcohol-based hand sanitizer
• Using a face mask
• Postponing air travel if feeling unwell. Health experts recommend travelers stay home a minimum of 24 hours after a fever subsides

For any concerns, the public is encouraged to send messages to the official Cebu Pacific Air accounts via Facebook or Twitter. — BAP, GMA News
