Caballo Island, Fort Magsaysay eyed as quarantine sites —Lorenzana

Caballo Island and Fort Magsaysay are being considered as possible quarantine areas for Filipinos who will be repatriated from China amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Friday.

“They are looking at both areas. No decision yet,” said Lorenzana, who's also the chairman of the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council.

Caballo Island is located at the entrance of the Manila Bay while Fort Magsaysay is in Nueva Ecija.

Wuhan City in Hubei, China is the epicenter of the 2019 novel coronavirus that reportedly originated from a wildlife market in the area.

Lorenzana told reporters that the Philippine government was looking for an area with buildings which can be re-modeled into a seclusion area.

He added that the government was planning to evacuate Filipinos from infected areas in China by using a chartered flight.

At present, the Philippines has one confirmed case of the nCoV. The patient is confined at San Lazaro Hospital in Manila City. —NB, GMA News
