Number of PUIs for 2019-nCoV now at 105, says DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said the number of persons under investigation (PUI) in the Philippines for possible 2019 novel coronavirus infection has risen to 105.

On its website, the DOH said 90 of these PUIs have been admitted to hospitals, 12 have been discharged, one has died due to the virus, one has tested positive for 2019-nCoV, and one died while under investigation.

The Philippines’ first fatality due to the virus, the first death recorded outside of China, was a 44-year-old man who came from Wuhan.

In China, a total of 425 have died after being infected by the virus. Over 20, 000 others have been infected. The second fatality outside China, meanwhile, was reported in Hong Kong.

In the Philippines, PUIs have been recorded in Ilocos, Cagayan, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao.

Durina a Senate hearing earlier on Tuesday, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said 31 PUIs came from Wuhan, China—the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Duque said the Bureau of Quarantine has information on what airlines the 31 people took and when they arrived in the country. — RSJ, GMA News
