Bodies of nCoV fatality, PUI buried – Duque

The remains of the 44-year-old Chinese national who died after testing positive for the novel coronavirus and another fatality who was being investigated for the nCoV infection had been buried, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Saturday.

"Nilibing na... minabuti ng ating direktor ng San Lazaro na gawin na lang ang burial. Natapos na kahapon ng umaga," Duque said in an interview on dzBB.

On Friday, Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo refused to divulge information on how and where the bodies were "properly disposed" of, out of respect for the deceased privacy.

Duque said earlier that crematoriums had been backing out from attending to the corpse of the novel coronavirus-infected Chinese male.

The 44-year-old Chinese man, the second person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the Philippines died on February 1. He became the first fatal case of nCoV infection outside China.

However, it was unclear who the second fatality Duque was referring to as two deaths were recorded among the persons under investigation for nCoV.

Among the PUI fatalities was a 29-year-old Chinese male who succumbed to pneumonia, while the other fatality was afflicted with an underlying restrictive lung disease who also died of pneumonia.

The 29-year-old victim died at the San Lazaro Hospital on January 29.

The second case of PUI death was also in Metro Manila but the name of the hospital was not disclosed to the public. — Ted Cordero/DVM, GMA News
