Duterte picks former SC Justice Chief Justice Bersamin to head GSIS

President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen former Supreme Court Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin to head the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), according to Senator Bong Go.

Bersamin took his oath of office last Feb. 6, 2020, the senator said in a text message sent to GMA News Online.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has confirmed the appointment of Bersamin.

It was in October last year that Bersamin retired after spending a decade at the Supreme Court.

A University of the East law graduate, Bersamin was appointed as a Quezon City regional trial court judge in 1986, promoted to the Court of Appeals in 2003, and designated to the SC in 2009 by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. — with Joahna Lei Casilao, Virgil Lopez/BAP, GMA News
