More than 84% of suspected COVID-19 cases in Philippines test negative — DOH

More suspected cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Philippines have turned out to be negative for the pathogen which infected almost 60,000 in China, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Friday.

At a press briefing in Manila, Health Assistant Secretary Maria Vergeire said that out of the cumulative total of 455 people under investigation (PUIs) in the country, 386 or over 84% tested negative for the virus.

On the other hand, three confirmed cases of COVID-19 were earlier reported in the Philippines, two of whom have recovered and one died.

Vergeire said that only 66 PUIs are awaiting the results of laboratory tests to determine whether they carry the virus or not.

Of the 455 recorded PUIs, 191 are still admitted at hospitals, 260 were discharged (including two confirmed cases), three died while under investigation, and another died after testing positive for COVID-19.

The top three regions hosting the highest number of PUIs in the country were Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas. — RSJ, GMA News
