DOH: Pregnant repatriate from China hospitalized after having high blood pressure, swelling

A pregnant Filipina who was among the 30 repatriates from China was referred to a hospital after suffering from high blood pressure and edema or swelling, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday.

"Mayroon tayong isang buntis na 38-year-old female na nakapagtala ng mataas na blood pressure tapos nagmamanas siya. So ang ginawa ng ating medical team to be sure dinala siya sa isang referral hospital," Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said at a press conference in Manila.

The DOH official added that the patient's husband, also one of the repatriates, is present at the medical facility to accompany her.

"The rest are okay and asymptomatic. Hopefully matatapos na ang ating quarantine period this coming Saturday," she said.

A total of 49 people—including the repatriates, flight crew and government's repatriation team—are currently being quarantined at the Athletes' Village in New Clark City to minimize the risk of possible local transmission of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19).

Last week, some of them were also referred to other medical facilities after experiencing diarrhea, ear infection, and anxiety.

Over 500 other Filipinos who had been aboard a cruise ship in Japan will likewise be offered voluntary repatriation, according to the DOH. They will have to undergo another two weeks of quarantine period once they arrive in the Philippines. — RSJ, GMA News
