Protesters gather at People Power Monument, call for Duterte ouster

Members of various groups gathered at the People Power Monument in Quezon City on Saturday afternoon to call for the ouster of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Quezon City Police District said 100 individuals were at the site as of posting time, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.

The protesters held up their placards with signs saying "Duterte resign now" and gave away flyers to passing motorists.

They belong to the Coalition Against Federalism in the Philippines and Kilusang Kontra Tsina.

According to Rey Abad of Kilusang Kontra Tsina, the protest action is part of their group's observance of the anniversary of People Power Revolution.

February 22 was the first day of the said revolution in 1986 which led to the ouster of then President Ferdinand Marcos.

Abad also said they are calling for Duterte's ouster for giving much leeway to China and for the increasing number of extrajudicial killings during his administration.

The protesters will also hold a prayer vigil at the site. —KG, GMA News
