Bong Go to appeal to Duterte for sake of ABS-CBN’s 11k employees

Senator Bong Go told the Senate panel that he would ask President Rodrigo Duterte to ease up on ABS-CBN for the sake of its over 11,000 employees.

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go on Monday indicated that he would ask President Rodrigo Duterte to relent on his issues against ABS-CBN as its legislative franchise continues to be pending before Congress just weeks before it expired.

Go made the remark as he ended his statement before the Senate Committee on Public Services as regards ABS-CBN and its pending legislative franchise.

The former special assistant to the President told the panel that Duterte was wronged during the latter days of the 2016 presidential campaign when ABS-CBN aired an ad critical of the then mayor of Davao City instead of the ad he had already paid for.

“Kung ako po ang tatanungin, I will appeal to the President, for the simple reason na ayaw ko na may mawalan ng trabaho,” Go told the committee.

At least 11,000 employees will be affected if the franchise of ABS-CBN will not be renewed.

In an interview, Go said the matter was still up to Duterte.

“Nasa kanya na desisyon. Sasabihin ko lang sa kanya as a legislator, maga-apela ako sa kanya na ayokong mawalan ng trabaho. ‘Di ko matuturuan ang Pangulo. At the end of the day it will be his decision,” Go said.

During the hearing, Go said Duterte only wanted "fair reporting" from the media.

"That is all the president wants. Ano lang po ang totoo. Nothing more nothing less," Go said.

"Kung masama ka kay Pangulo, maging mas masama siya sa yo. Kung mabait ka kay Pangulo, mas mabait siya sa yo," he added.

"If you want fair reporting, then ilabas niyo ang katotohanan kung bakit nasaktan ang Pangulo," Go said. —NB, GMA News
