PNP, Ateneo to unveil first-time study on poor public perception of PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) are set to unveil the results of the first-ever study on the persistent problem of poor public perception of the Philippine National Police.

The research study titled "Leadership Study Diagnosing Factors Behind Success and Failure in the Philippine National Police," which was conducted by the ASoG, would be presented on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the PNP Main Conference Room at Camp Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City.

"For years, we have been searching for a clearer answer on the problem of low public perception of PNP, and now we seek the help of the academe to conduct this study," said PNP Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa in a statement.

Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Prospero De Vera would be present at the event as a guest speaker, while ASoG Dean Dr. Ronald Mendoza would present the results of the study before the PNP Command Group, the media, and D-Staff.

Gamboa said the study would emphasize some of the main factors that both build and erode key leadership qualities and performance of the PNP.

The research aimed to objectively examine four main factors: personality traits, organizational culture, demographic profile, and professional history.

Gamboa noted the ASoG had included 479 police officers from the National Capital Region as key informants of the study.

"This is our first move to go forward onto the next measures on how we improve further our governance institutional advancements of the PNP," Gamboa said. — Jamil Santos/DVM, GMA News
