LGUs, churches need to do their part in fight vs illegal gambling –PNP

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac said on Sunday that local governments and churches needed to help in the effort against illegal gambling.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Banac pointed out that the illegal gambling problem was complex, involving economic factors as well as having social and moral dimensions.

“Hindi lang ito law enforcement na problema” Banac emphasized.

For Banac, the response needed to include livelihood for people involved in illegal gambling.

“Maging ang simbahan kailangan maging involved dito dahil ito ay nangangailangan ng moral and spiritual components din sa paglaban natin dito,” he added.

Banac also encouraged families to develop values and the character of children so they would not resort to this illegal activity.

“Nagsisimula lang 'yan sa laro eh, for fun lang. Ang nangyari, pinagkakitaan na,” he said.

Meanwhile, regional police directors were already provided with the list of illegal gambling operators in their respective areas, according to PNP chief General Archie Francisco Gamboa.

Gamboa reiterated his warning that police officers should not compromise themselves by getting involved with gambling operators.

“Ang polisiya ng Pambansang Pulisya, kapag kinulang ng aksyon, nagkakaroon ng balasahan at pinapalitan ang hepe kapag bigo siyang labanan ang iligal na sugal,” Banac said. — Joviland Rita/DVM, GMA News
