Gordon believes China spying on Philippines through POGOs

Senator Richard Gordon on Monday said he believes that members of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has infiltrated Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) for intelligence gathering in the country.

"Naniniwala ako na infiltrated 'yan (POGO) ng PLA dahil ang laki-laki niyan. Ilagay mo na lang 200,000 'yan na nagtatrabaho dito, nakatigil dito," Gordon said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.

He noted that China's intelligence network is even bigger than the United States'. "Peoples Liberation Army, napakalakas niyan sa China," he said. "They are the biggest intelligence agency, mas malaki pa sa Amerika."

Gordon pointed out that the Chinese spies were probably out to determine invasion areas and to ascertain the location of Philippine military bases, among others.

Gordon particularly expressed worry over the shooting incident in Makati City last week involving Chinese nationals where the suspects were found to be carrying PLA identification cards.

A Chinese national was wounded in the incident while another one was wounded. Two of the three suspects were arrested.

"Bakit sila may baril?" Gordon said, adding the firearms recovered from the suspects were high-powered.

"Nakakabahala itong nangyayari. Nagkakaroon sila ng baril, ng firing range. Nagkakapatayan sila (Chinese)," he added.
