Pinoy crew member evacuated from cruise ship after suffering burns

A Filipino crew member who suffered a second-degree burns due to an accident inside a cruise ship was evacuated by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Sunday morning.

On its Twitter account, the PCG said M/V Quantum of the Seas requested immediate assistance for Francis Lie Bonzato, 26, engine cadet, who had second-degree burns on his left arm and right leg, causing almost 25% damage to his body.

BRP Tubattaha (MRRV 4401) evacuated Bonzato from M/V Quantum of the Seas, which docked at Manila Bay at  4:43 a.m..

The rescue team immediately brought Bonzato to the Manila Doctor's Hospital for medical attention.

Bonzato was declared in stable condition at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The PCG said according to the victim,  the steam from the boiler exploded while he was refilling chemical.

Fortunately, Bonzato was able to flee the area and sought help from his fellow crew members.

A report on Dobol B sa News TV on Monday said the cruise ship was from Singapore and no other crew members or passengers were allowed to leave the vessel. It added the cruise ship also had bunkering while it is docked in Manila Bay.
