Fewer crimes reported amid enhanced Luzon quarantine, Eleazar says

Philippine National Police (PNP) deputy chief for operations Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday said that the criminality rate decreased following the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Interviewed on Unang Balita, Eleazar attributed the drop of crime reports to the presence of police personnel in over a thousand checkpoints across Luzon.

“Bumaba ang criminality rate with the 1,300 checkpoint in placed all over Luzon and more than 10,000 personnel ay natulungan nating bumababa ang krimen,” he said.

However, Eleazar noted that this was only the first days of the enhanced community quarantine, implying that it could still change later on.

Due to this, Eleazar vowed that the PNP will sustain the strict monitoring at the borders of quarantine areas to maintain peace and order.

Enhanced community quarantine was imposed over entire Luzon due to the COVID-19.

As part of this, the entry and exits at the borders of quarantine areas will be restricted. All public transport and some works are suspended. Residents are strictly advised to stay at home. --Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
