DOH seeks COVID-19 referral center, contact tracing volunteers

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday called for volunteers to aid in efforts to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

At a virtual press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the DOH and the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) would soon launch a campaign seeking volunteers who would aid in caring for COVID-19 patients at referral hospitals.

The PGH, Lung Center of the Philippines, and the Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital had agreed to serve as referral centers for COVID-19 patients.

“Kailangan po nating magtalaga ng mga dagdag na medical healthcare workers upang makatulong nang maayos sa pangangalaga ng ating mga pasyente,” Vergeire said.

Senator Francis Tolentino had meanwhile called for around 1,500 medical school graduates to serve at the frontlines despite not being licensed physicians.

The DOH also earlier called for contact tracing volunteers.

“Sa dami ng kailangang i-contact trace, hindi na po sapat ang mga tauhan ng DOH para masundan lahat ng contact ng COVID-positive patients natin,” Vergeire explained.

She added that some 1,300 people had already responded to the DOH’s call.

The Philippines had 462 COVID-19 cases and 33 deaths due to the disease as of Monday afternoon. — DVM, GMA News
