VRP Medical Center reaches full capacity for PUIs, COVID-19 patients

The VRP Medical Center has already reached its maximum capacity in handling patients with or suspected to have coronavirus disease  2019 (COVID-19).

In a statement on Wednesday, the Mandaluyong hospital said it is attending to eight COVID-19 patients, 17 persons under investigation, has triaged over a thousand persons under monitoring and investigation, and is receiving "every day more and more critical suspected COVID patients."

“Although we would like to continue serving our dear patients, we regret that we have reached maximum capacity for PUI/COVID-19 admissions,” it said.

“It is our desire to fulfill our mission to provide medical care, but we must also ensure the level of care remains uncompromised,” it added.

The VRP Medical Center said it will continue to provide COVID-19 testing for outpatients. However, patients who need admission will be transferred to other hospitals.

It said in the past month, it implemented measures to control the situation but "the last two weeks have been the most worrisome."

It lamented that some of the patients were dishonest about their history which put the life of the health workers at risk and the recent suspension of public transport due to the enhanced community quarantine makes it very difficult for them to go to work.

The Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Medical City, Makati Medical CenterSt. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City and Global City, as well as the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center earlier said they would also stop admitting  COVID-19 patients.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said he will meet with medical directors of these hospitals.

“Dapat humanap sila ng pamamaraan para patuloy ang kanilang pag-aalaga ng kanilang mga pasyente,” he said.—AOL, GMA News
