Duterte names ex-General Galvez ‘chief implementer’ vs. COVID-19

President Rodrigo Duterte has designated Carlito Galvez Jr., the current Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, as “chief implementer” of the government’s national policy against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Galvez, former chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, was tasked to “ensure strict compliance and adherence of everyone (public and private sector) to the guidelines and protocols” issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

“He was further tasked to protect and promote the safety and welfare of the public at all times, and ensure the efficient and expeditious distribution of government assistance to the public, with particular attention to our citizens who are in most need,” according to memorandum from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on March 24, 2020. —Virgil Lopez/LDF, GMA News
