McDonald's Philippines to serve 50,000 meals to frontliners through 'McDo Kindness Kitchen'

McDonald's Philippines' charity arm has launched the "McDo Kindness Kitchen," a program that pledges to serve 50,000 meals for frontliners and local communities affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat.

In a statement, the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) said select McDonald's branches have dedicated the operations of their kitchens to prepare the meals for medical health workers, police, LGU volunteers, government agencies and local communities. Each McDo Kindness Kitchen prepares 1,500 meals a day, while its partners help in distributing them.

“We continue to reinforce our commitment to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos by providing aid to Filipinos in need during this very challenging time,” RMHC Executive Director Marie Angeles was quoted as saying.

The first Kindness Kitchen branch was opened on March 20. So far, 17,000 meals have been served at different communities. The charity said there are currently three other McDo Kindness Kitchen operating in Las Pinas, Cebu Escario and Makati.

It added that it now accepts cash donations from individual and corporate donors who wish to support their program. By donating, one can cover costs for a meal worth 50 pesos per person; these meals are offered at cost.

Luzon has been under enhanced community quarantine since March 17 as the country fights off the COVID-19.

Due to this, mass transportation has been suspended and many establishments and restaurants have temporarily closed.
