Crashed aircraft at NAIA encountered technical problem - initial reports

The medical evacuation flight that crashed on Sunday evening encountered a technical problem while the aircraft was rolling out for takeoff, initial reports from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) revealed.

"The medical evacuation flight, bound for Tokyo/Haneda in Japan reportedly encountered a technical problem while rolling for takeoff on Runway 06," the CAAP said in a statement.

It was referring to an Agusta WW24 aircraft that crashed and caught on fire at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Sunday, killing all eight people onboard

CAAP said the Philippine Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (PARCC) is now gathering additional information on the accident.

Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board (AAIIB) chief investigator Rainier Baculinao has also been dispatched to help determine the cause of the accident. —Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/JST, GMA News
