Duterte orders adequate energy, water supply during COVID-19 emergency

President Rodrigo Duterte cited measures to ensure adequate supply of power, fuel and water while the country is under COVID-19 emergency.

In his report to Congress on Monday, Duterte said the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) had ordered all water utilities and water service providers to refrain from disconnecting water supply to individual households for the entire duration of the state of public health emergency.

The NWRB had also initiated cloud seeding operations in the Angat Water Reservoir and directed the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System to continue the activation of its existing deep wells.

Located in Bulacan, the Angat Dam supplies more than 90% of Metro Manila's water needs.

The National Transmission Corporation will also proceed with the feed-in-tariff payments for FIT-eligible renewable energy developers “to ensure that they have the means to support their operations,” Duterte said.

The President submitted the report as mandated by the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act (Republic Act 11469). —LDF, GMA News
