Duterte calls on ROTC cadets to help in aid distribution

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday called on trainees of the Reserved Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) to help in distributing relief packs to families affected by the quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)

"I'm calling upon mga ROTC, get in touch with the DSWD doon sa mga siyudad. Just give your accreditation, maybe an ID at makatulong kayo," Duterte said in a televised address.

Earlier, he said the idealistic youth should volunteer in relief operations as their share in helping Filipinos weather this crisis.

"Ang volunteers na lang yung mga bata, yung may idealism pa, sila na ang mag distribute [...] It's life and death. If you do not die of COVID-19, you die of hunger," Duterte said.

"Wag kayong matakot diyan [ma-politika]. ... People will not put you to task for doing your duty during a critical period of our nation," he later added. —LDF, GMA News
