Caritas Manila distributes P1B in GCs to 4M poor residents in 10 dioceses


Catholic social action group Caritas Manila has donated P1-billion worth of gift certificates to urban poor residents in 10 dioceses and sub-dioceses of Mega Manila, church-run Radio Veritas reported Wednesday.

In a report on Radio Veritas website, Caritas Manila head Father Anton Pascual was quoted as saying that the GCs were distributed to poor residents through the Oplan Damayan program.

According to Fr. Pascual, a total of P1, 078, 212, 500 worth of GCs have been released by Caritas Manila to the Dioceses of Cubao, Antipolo, Malolos, Paranaque, Kalookan, Novaliches, San Pablo Laguna, Pasig, and Archdiocese of Manila, representing 633 parishes.

Likewise, Pascual said a total of 813, 557 urban families or 4,069, 285 members of poor households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic have received the GCs.

He said that the GCs came from business individuals and groups who are affiliated with the church-led Oplan Damayan program. —LBG, GMA News
